Curtis Taylor, Jr. is a director and cinematographer from Saint Louis based out of Los Angeles dedicated to building worlds with people of color at the center through fiction. Always having had a passion for film, Taylor used his collegiate experience as an opportunity to leverage access for underrepresented voices as a bridge between education and creativity.
After completing his B.A. and Master’s in Education at the University of Missouri, Curtis then went on to build worlds with companies such as Instagram, Facebook, GIPHY, Leo Burnett Chicago, Kastner & Partners LA, Red Bull, Shea Moisture, Kraft, McDonalds and more. Most recently, Curtis served as Director of Photography at Buzzfeed Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, CA, with a portfolio that spans disruptive, viral campaigns. A few highlights of Curtis’ leadership work as a director of photography for high-impact projects include, DP’ing ‘Quinta Vs. Everything’ original series, with this series now streaming across the some of the world’s biggest digital platforms, including Hulu, Amazon and Facebook Watch, garnering over an average of 15+ million views. Curtis’ DP work on BuzzFeed Tasty’s first-ever collaboration with rap supergroup Migos included a viral video campaign for their latest album Culture II, which amassed over 7+ million views in less than 48 hours. After transitioning from his role at Buzzfeed, Taylor was recognized by Forbes, DAZED, Teen Vogue, Billboard, Glamour, and Paper magazine for his work. Just this past November, Taylor wrapped his 3rd series sold to Facebook Watch which aired November 8th, 2019 Cocoa Butter's "The Era."
Curtis is a next-gen filmmaker and academic who strives to use his gaze to move the needle, liberating underrepresented voices everyday. What keeps him going is, the ability to build a world tomorrow that yesterday never knew.
Curtis Taylor, Jr. is a Saint Louis native who has been a smoothie connoisseur for as long as he can remember. Always having had a passion for the arts, Taylor used his collegiate experience as an opportunity to leverage access as bridge between education and the arts. As an undergraduate student Taylor quickly identified a need for academics in creative spaces later leading him on a very unconventional path. After completing his M.ED, Taylor went on to work with top companies and brands such as Leo Burnett, HBO, Instagram, GIPHY, Glamour, and Red Bull; his work has been featured in DAZED, Teen Vogue, Complex, and Billboard. Curtis formally served as a Director of Photography at Buzzfeed Motion Pictures in Los Angeles, CA. He also is the Co-owner and Curator of The Greens a concept store based in Columbia, MO. Shortly after transitioning from his role at Buzzfeed, Taylor was recognized by Forbes and Paper magazine from his work. Slated for launch this November, Taylor just wrapped his 3rd project sold to Facebook Watch which airs November 8th, Cocoa Butter's "The Era."
Curtis is a creator and academic who strives everyday to use his creativity in a way that moves the needle to liberate those whose voices have often been silenced. Not to mention the owner of a pretty bad beard Whether he is somewhere freezing a moment in time or in a documentary with Spike Lee. Taylor is a true agent of change and strives to be a scholar in entertainment each and everyday.
WHAT I LOSE TIME DOING
Building worlds is about creating something that you have never experienced before yet relish in the possibility of what could be. It is one of the greatest treasures I have ever had the pleasure of yielding.
